San Marco Presbyterian

Mission

Head, Heart, and Hands

SMPC Missions

Mission’s task is to steward our corporate tithe—in head, heart, and hands. Not just a check-writing committee, Mission discerns the needs of the community, the region, and the world that resonate with our church family and helps the congregation mature in their faith by engaging intellectually (head), emotionally (heart) and volitionally (hand) with these issues.

We do not see ourselves as above those we serve, but fervently believe that everyone has gifts, skills, and passions. We serve arm-in-arm with them as beloved children of God.

Serving at Sulzbacher

Our Missions

San Marco Presbyterian Church played a founding role in the missions of UCOM, DESC, and HabiJax (now First Coast Habitat for Humanity) and has provided and served dinner for struggling community members at Sulzbacher for decades. We also continue to work with Jacksonville Campus Ministry, ICARE, and 904WARD, and we are proud to support Beyond90, Montgomery Center, Sanctuary on 8th Street, and Yoga 4 Change.

904ward

904WARD creates racial healing and equity through deep conversations and learning, trusting relationships, and collective action.

Beyond90

Ninety days is rarely enough time for a refugee family to move from a camp to a stable life in a new country. Beyond90 bridges that gap in Northeast Florida, offering practical support, mental health care, and individualized coaching until families can stand on their own.

Downtown Ecumenical Services Council

Located in downtown Jacksonville, DESC is in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church and has an onsite Food Pantry and Clothing Center. DESC also offers Emergency Financial Assistance, Case Management and Work Boots.

First Coast Habitat for Humanity

Formerly HabiJax, First Coast Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes with families across Duval, Nassau, and Baker Counties. Around 2,400 families have become homeowners through its work, and its ReStore now ranks first in Florida.

i.c.a.r.e.

The Interfaith Coalition for Action, Reconciliation & Empowerment is comprised of 38 congregations and addresses citywide concerns related to issues of justice and fairness.

Jacksonville Campus Ministry

JCM is as an ecumenical ministry serving the University of North Florida and Jacksonville University. Throughout the years, the ministry has expanded and contracted with the ebb and flow of students and volunteers.

Montgomery Center

Set on 167 acres of lakefront and live oaks between Starke and Keystone Heights, Montgomery Center is a camp, conference, and retreat center that welcomes all people to experience Christ and Creation. Its summer camps and youth retreats have shaped young people in North Florida for decades.

Sanctuary on 8th Street

Since 1992, The Sanctuary on 8th Street has given children in Jacksonville’s Springfield neighborhood a safe and loving place to grow. Its after-school program pairs one-on-one tutoring with field trips, and summer camp keeps that support going when school is out.

Sulzbacher

Sulzbacher works to provide our community with affordable access to housing, health care, and opportunities for economic growth.

United Community Outreach Ministry

UCOM has been working since 1979 to make sure no one faces hunger or crisis alone. They serve by providing grocery assistance, delivering daily meals, mobile pantries, and providing case management to end cycles of crisis.

Yoga 4 Change

Yoga 4 Change brings trauma-informed yoga to people who rarely have access to it, from veterans and students to people in recovery and those in the justice system. Its evidence-based classes help participants reduce stress and pain while building resilience.
