San Marco Presbyterian

By Greg McMillan

Resurrection, renewal, rebirth, revitalization, renaissance.

As we celebrate resurrection, and with the imminent completion of our new community space, The Point, we are also celebrating our own renewal, our own rebirth, our own revitalization, our own renaissance.

And we’d like to add another word to that list: rename.

For over 20 years, there have been public and private conversations, and numerous discussions among our church leadership, all surrounding the idea of a new name. A few months ago, our session (the governing body of our church) had yet another discussion and ultimately decided to take a cue from our fellow Presbyterian congregations in the area whose names reflect where they are located: Riverside, Lakewood, Orange Park, Arlington, Mandarin.

At this time of revitalization and rebirth, it was unanimously determined that our name would be San Marco Presbyterian Church.

We were formerly known as South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, and if you’ve arrived here wondering about the difference, that’s the story. Same congregation, same community, same mission. A new name that reflects where we are and what’s important to us.

What better time to make this change than now, with The Point nearing completion and exciting updates already underway, including a new sign and a newly designed website.

In the coming months, you will see some gradual changes as we continue with our renaissance.
